Back from Tour

Hey guys. I'm finally back from tour and starting to readjust to everyday life. Playing in Europe was amazing. My favorite spots were definitely Berlin, Prague, Paris, and Birmingham. Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to sight see much, but I was able to explore Berlin and see the Eiffel Tower in gay Paris. Above is a pic of Malkmus playing Siren Fest this past Saturday at Coney Island. We flew from Frankfurt to NYC on Friday and arrived at 9pm at JFK airport. We had to be at Coney Island by 10am the next morning to load in our gear for Siren! It was jetlag-heatstroke-crazyshit-city! It was so much fun though. It was the largest crowd we've ever played for and the setting was so killer. The Cyclone was to the right of the stage, and the Wonder Wheel to the left. I actually rode the Cyclone with my band mate later in the day and it wrecked me. At least I rode it before it's gone.

Here's a selection of photos from my flickr:

Vagiant

Still working on the list: 10. Safety is my goal: Please Call
I have seen this truck twice now. It has that normal phone number and tells you that the goal is safety, but someone has keyed out one of the identifying numbers in the phone number and one identifying numbers in the Truck ID number. I wonder if the employer will ever see that truck. Two photos:

11. Absolute Pear billboard = Georgia O'Keeffe Vagina Flower
Now in this next photo, a billboard has a giant vagina on it. Sex Sells.

That is enough of the list for one post.

Freshly Dead

I found another dead bird. This time at work, or just as I was leaving work. This little finch flew into one of the five stories of glass and fell to its death onto concrete. It makes me feel responsible as part of the human race for making buildings that kill little birds. There is something very unnatural to see a beautiful bird lying dead on cement. I think this last picture is the worst.

Street Art +

I captured these street pieces on my walk to the Graham L train a few weeks ago and thought I would share them with you all. One thing that I really enjoy about commuting is all of the street art and subway ephemera that I encounter. I have a photo set on flickr of détourned subway posters that I've photographed since I moved here. My old commute on the Nassau G train contained a hotbed of good subway collage. Most of the my photos were taken there. Here are some of my favorites:

I've noticed a lot of interesting street art in the warehouse area along the Greenpoint/ Williamsburg border. This is a close-up of a portion of a fairly large wheatpasted print near my practice space:

And finally, here is a photo I took a couple of weeks ago when I was on my way to a guitar shop in Williamsburg and was struck by the beautiful colors and composition of the ivy growing on this building:
